The Sacraments
First Holy Communion
Holy Communion is the act by which we receive the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. The Eucharist is the greatest of the seven sacraments celebrated by the Catholic Church. At each Mass, the bread and wine is consecrated, and is thus transformed to become in its deepest reality the body and blood of the risen Christ. As we eat the host and drink from the chalice, we are nourished by Jesus himself.
Preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion is really important, and we run a course every year with our First Holy Communion Sunday being the Sunday after Easter Sunday.
The course, for both sacraments runs for ten sessions for about an hour on Saturday mornings and is attended by both the child and one or both of their parents. Children need to be in year 3 or above at school to go onto the course.
Application forms are available from December each year, if you have any questions then please speak to Deacon Terry.
